The Juggling Act by Carol Maloney Scott

I have not read a good chick lit book / romantic comedy in a long time! Prior to getting into romances these types of books were my go-t0. Gah, what have I been missing? I totally adored this book. It is light, fun, entertaining, and quite “real” as I am sure we have all been in the character’s shoes once or twice in our lives. What really got me hooked to this book though is how chaotic everything was! Normally this could be confusing to readers but with this one it’s what gets us readers laughing in the first place. Who knew that Claire’s mother had such a mouth on her? And how is it possible that Claire mistook Excedrin for Ambien. Ha ha, I […]

Read and Gone by Allison Brooke

This is such a fun cozy series! I was looking forward to this one almost immediately after I read Death Overdue (which happens to be the first in the series) and I wasn’t disappointed at all! Allison Brook has a knack for these stories and I gobbled this one up quickly. If you enjoy cozy mysteries with a hint of paranormal and romance, then I recommend this series to you. I can’t wait to see what happens with Carrie next.

Death Overdue by Allison Brooke

This is the first book in a brand new cozy mystery series! I really loved this one and am excited to see where the author takes the series next. Carrie (the heroine/sleuth) really spoke to me in this one and I enjoyed her as a character and how she presented herself to the world (especially considering that she was completely changed from the person she used to be). The added paranormal piece was also really exciting and while I wish this ghost was a bit more prominent throughout the book she did make a fantastic secondary character. I can’t wait to see more of Carrie and this ghost working together in the future. But, the best part of the book? The setting! We, as book […]

A Sudden Crush by Camilla Isley

This is the perfect chick lit book to escape to! It includes everything a chick lit fan needs; humor, romance, and an overall fun cast that will leave you wishing you were best friends with the characters. I loved everything about this book from the plot all the way down to the characters! And you know what else adds absolute perfection to this book? A monkey named Manny! HAHA this book is the perfect beach read that will leave reads feeling completely satisfied. I highly recommend it!  What happens when you are on your way to your perfect honeymoon and your plane suddenly makes an emergency landing? Even more, what happens when a horrific event leaves you and your fellow seat mate stranded on a […]

A High-End Finish by Kate Carlisle

I love a good cozy mystery so I was thrilled when I saw this one on sale for $1.99. So thrilled in fact that I gobbled it up as fast as I could! A High-End Finish is the first book in the series. There are a few more that have been released after this one, so if your looking for a new cozy series to get into this would be a good one as there aren’t too many books to catch up with. Also, Kate Carlisle does a fantastic job at mixing a little bit of romance with a great mystery. So, you can’t go wrong with this one if you are a fan of one or both of these genres! In this installment, readers […]

Tart of Darkness by Denise Swanson

Tart of Darkness is the first book in an all new cozy mystery series by Denise Swanson. This is a culinary cozy where the heroine has opened a catering business that prepares meals for couples, parties, and lunch options for those who don’t like to cook. It’s a charming story with a fantastic set of characters, an interesting and enjoyable plot, and a “who-dun-it” that I couldn’t figure out until it was revealed.  Cozy mystery fans are going to really enjoy this novel especially if you have enjoyed the authors previous books and series. I am fairly new to her work and have read a few books but I know that I am going to be HOOKED on this series. I love culinary mysteries with […]

Murder is Binding by Lorna Barrett

Gosh I wish this town truly existed! I would be THRILLED to live in a small town that has the streets lined with book stores!!  I will keep this review short as I haven’t written a formal review on goodreads but do plan to read the rest of the series. This is a must read for anyone who loves books and amateur sleuths. It’s truly the whole package.

Too Many Crooks Spoil the Plot by Sarah Osborne

Too Many Crooks Spoil the Plot is the first book in the Ditie Brown Mystery series. As with all cozies, there is a murder, a sleuthing woman hellbent on finding the killer (sometimes a male, but mostly women), and some twists and turns. For the most part, I did enjoy reading this one. I liked the characters and setting. However, this book didn’t feel lighthearted like most cozies. There was a ton of emotion wrapped into the book as the sleuth becomes a guardian for her friends children who happened to be the victim of the story. So not only was she trying to solve her friends murder but she was also thrust into a mothering role herself for the kids. This is all original […]

Asking for a Truffle by Dorothy St. James

I am going to keep this review short because I don’t have too much to say about the book. First and foremost, I think this is a good start to the series but I am hoping the books improve as it continues. Otherwise, I won’t waste my money as the newer books are pricey for the length. Next, there were a couple of things that bothered me about this book. First, the series name is A Southern Chocolate Shop mystery. Nothing about this book felt southern to me besides the characters saying where they were from. And when I say nothing I mean ZILCH. There wasn’t any character slang, there didn’t seem to be any southern values, and these characters certainly didn’t have the southern charm I […]
