Spring at Blueberry Bay by Holly Martin

Awe! This is such a sweet and lovely read that it left me with the biggest smile when I finished it. Now, while a familiar trope is used in the story (a sort of co-workers/office romance) the author presented it in a unique and utterly charming way! I won’t spoil the story for you so that’s all I will say on that topic, but I really loved how it developed and came together. With that, this book is perfect for those enjoy chick lit and women’s fiction novels. There are moments of hilarity, moments where you want to rip out your hair (those are few and far between), moments of tears, and most of all, moments of joy. Holly Martin used exact precision when describing […]

Curves, Kisses, and Chocolate Ice-Cream by Sue Watson

Curves, Kisses, and Chocolate Ice-Cream is a fun summer romp and perfect for any woman’s beach bag. That said, it is the second book in the Ice-Cream Cafe series but can be read as a complete standalone. For those who enjoy the chick lit and women’s fiction genre, this would be the perfect fit for you! It’s a relatable tale about a “curvier” woman who just wants to loose a few pounds. How many of us have been in this same predicament? I can assume that most if not all have felt this way before. And indeed, so does our heroine (Dani). Although, giving up the sweet treats and actually exercising isn’t her idea of fun. Now, at times I felt that Dani came off […]

One S’more Summer by Beth Merlin

One S’more Summer by Beth Merlin

One S’more Summer by Beth Merlin is a cute book about summer camp. Readers may initially believe that because it’s about summer camp that it is a young adult novel- but it’s not! This is an adult (women’s fiction) novel about a woman who is running away from her life, back to the place where some of her greatest memories are kept- at camp Chinooka. There is a little bit of summer romance in this book, but because the story doesn’t really revolve around this romance and instead, revolves more around the heroine’s issues, I would consider it women’s fiction. Also, it’s a very clean novel with no sex. If you enjoy women’s fiction novels or want to conjure up the memories of summer camp […]

Ella’s Ice-Cream Summer by Sue Watson

It’s books like this that make me remember why chick lit reads have always been my favorite. Instead of throwing in unrealistic relationships filled with angst, worry, and all sorts of trouble, we get a sweet and charming read that is perfect for every woman. Ella’s Ice-Cream summer is filled with lovable characters. There are also long standing family secrets that must be uncovered. This little bit of added drama really brings the book alive and I loved going on the journey with Ella as she discovered who she is and what life is all about. Now, looking at the title one would thing that this book is filled with delicious ice cream. And guess what? It is. I can almost taste the creaminess as […]

A Grave Issue by Lillian Bell

A Grave Issue by Lillian Bell

Lillian Bell is off to a good start with this new series, A Funeral Parlor Mystery. One of the main things I liked about this book was how determined our heroine, Desiree is when it comes to finding out who really killed Alan. Even more, the author adds elements to the end of the story that will certainly pique readers interest in terms of getting the next installment (something in which I will be doing). So I think it’s an all around winner in these aspects. On the downside, the story was a little too short for me. I think if the author added a little bit more character history and sleuthing then I would have liked it a little better. Everything just happened so […]

A Soufflé of Suspicion by Daryl Wood Gerber

If you are new to cozy mysteries and want to give the genre a try I highly recommend starting with this series! It has been quite a while since I have been able to sit down and 5 star both books in a cozy series but this one deserves it! The heroine/sleuth (Mimi) is a pure delight! I love her personality, attitude, and the way she goes after solving mysteries that end up falling on her plate. The mysteries themselves can somewhat be predictable, although some may not be able to figure it out until the very end! And the recipes? SCRUMPTIOUS. I have never in my life wanted to cook french food but after reading about these delicious dishes? I know what I’ll be […]

A Deadly Éclair by Daryl Wood Gerber

A Deadly Eclair is the first book in a brand new cozy mystery series by Daryl Wood Gerber. This is a culinary mystery that revolves around delectable french foods, a new bistro, and a murder! The characters are fantastic. Readers will have a ton of fun sleuthing with Mimi and enjoy the company of the secondary characters who easily warmed my heart. There is a little bit of a romance in this one- which will be interesting to see how it grows in the coming books- and of course, a murder that will keep readers guessing until the very end. Top all of this with some amazing french recipes that you’ll want to try whipping up and you have yourself an absolute winner! Overall, I […]

Midnight Snacks are Murder by Libby Klein

This series is AH-MAY-ZING. If you like cozy mysteries, I HIGHLY recommend ready Poppy McAllister. These books are funny as hell! And, they have fantastic mysteries that keep you guessing until the very end! The only downside? The wait to get the next book!!! Gosh, I really can’t say enough good things about Libby Klein’s series. So I’ll keep it simple- READ THESE BOOKS. They feature a great cast of characters, a ton of humor and fun, and nearly unsolvable mysteries. This is now my favorite cozy mystery series to date! Previously, I would say Hannah Swensen was my favorite sleuth and baker, but Poppy McAllister has beat her.  I want to keep this review short and sweet because I don’t have too much to […]

No Farm, No Foul by Peg Cochran

I loved this cozy mystery! I always get super excited when I find a new cozy series to fall in love with and this book is one of them! No Farm, No Foul is the first book in the Farmer’s Daughter mystery series. It takes place in Michigan, on a farm, where the murder of the reverends wife occurs (GASP). Once just a mother of two and specialized farmer and gardener, now Shelby is putting on her sleuthing cap! She doesn’t want her friends going down for a murder they didn’t commit and she certainly doesn’t want a killer to go unpunished. Will Shelby find the killer before it’s too late? Or will she find herself on the wrong side of the pitchfork? Cozy mystery […]
