My Rating :
I’m a full-time single dad to three daughters and CFO at Cloverleigh Farms. I don’t have time to fall in love—I’m too busy trying to run a business, keep the red socks out of the white laundry, and get the damn pillowcases on without owing a dollar to the swear jar.
Sure, Frannie Sawyer is beautiful and sweet, but she’s twenty-seven, the boss’s daughter, and my new part-time nanny—which means she’s completely off-limits. It’s bad enough I can’t stop fantasizing about her, what kind of jerk would I be if I acted on the impulse to kiss her?
(Exactly the kind of jerk you’re thinking.)
Actually, I’m worse than that—because I didn’t stop with a kiss, and now I can’t stay away. She makes me feel like myself again. She reminds me what it’s like to want something just for me. She’s everything I ever needed, but nothing I ever imagined.
I’m a former Marine. I should have had the strength to resist her from the start.
But I didn’t. And now I have to choose between the life I want and the life she deserves.
Even if it means giving her up.
Irresistible is the first standalone in the Cloverleigh Farms series! This is such a cute book. I haven’t read many books by Melanie Harlow but I know for sure that I will read every book in this series. There’s just something about the setting that really vibes with me. That being said, this is a contemporary romance novel. Within this novel there are quite a few tropes making it perfect for almost any reader! First, there is an age gap between the two (he is 10 years older than she is). Second, their love story is forbidden as they work together and she is the bosses daughter. Third, the hero is a SINGLE dad. This always gets me going! There is just something so swoony when it comes to single dads who take care of their kids and put them above all else. Sigh… Dreamy! Finally, I would consider this a friends-to-lovers romance as the pair have known each other for years but just haven’t acted on their feelings until now. As you can see, there is so much goodness packed into this little book. I really enjoyed it.
Despite my love for the novel overall, I did have a few problems with it. First and foremost, the hero was in his head WAY to much. One minute he wanted to be with Frannie and the next he was coming up with all the reasons it couldn’t work. Obviously this is a romance so I’m sure you can gather how it ends, but the way he went back and forth in each chapter really grated on my nerves. I mean come on! He’s a grown man. Make up your mind! Another thing that bothered me a bit is that the two of them were really concerned with how her family would take the news that she was dating the CFO of the company. They worried, stewed on it a little, but we never found out HOW they took the news. It’s as if the author forgot to add this information in it. Most people would probably see past this but for me, it’s the little missing pieces that I always notice and this was one of them.
Other than these few things I feel that this is a solid novel. I was blusing when they first got together, felt the pull of their relationship even when they were questioning everything, and love how it all wrapped up in the end. I think many readers are going to really enjoy this one and I would certainly recommend it! You can easily read it in a day or two. Plus, it’s free with a kindle unlimited subscription!
