My Rating :
She’s the only one who ever loved him—and the only one he can never have.
Jude lost everything one spring day when he crashed his car into an apple tree on the side of the road. A man is dead, and there's no way he can ever right that wrong. He’d steer clear of Colebury, Vermont forever if he could. But an ex-con in recovery for his drug addiction can’t find a job just anywhere.
Sophie Haines is stunned by his reappearance. After a three year absence, the man who killed her brother and broke her heart is suddenly everywhere she turns. It’s hard not to stare at how much he’s changed. The bad boy who used to love her didn’t have big biceps and sun-kissed hair. And he’d never volunteer in the church kitchen.
No one wants to see Sophie and Jude back together, least of all Sophie's police chief father. But it's a small town. And forbidden love is a law unto itself.
Another hit in the True North series, Steadfast takes readers on the turbulent journey with Jude as he overcomes addiction, a prison conviction, and the pain of hurting the one person he loved most in the world. To say I adored this book is an understatement. It is beautifully written and gives and honest and sincere look at how addiction can hurt so many people- including the one who is using. With that being said, this book is not only addicting itself (no pun intended, I really couldn’t put it down) but it is angst filled, emotional, and real. Readers can sympathize and even place themselves in the character’s shoes especially if they know someone who has an addiction problem. Overall, it’s just a beautiful read that is sensitively told and has a great impact on those who read it. While I wish this book didn’t have to end, I do look forward to the next installment in the series that is quickly becoming a favorite of mine for 2016. I heard from the grapevine that the next novel; KEEPSAKE is set to release in October. I can’t WAIT!
Jude has gotten out of prison 3 months ago for manslaughter. Unintentionally, he killed his girlfriend’s brother one night when he was high on drugs and has been paying for it ever since. Being back in the place where this all went down is difficult to say the least, and every day he can feel his cravings coming back. To make matters worse, the love of Jude’s life is also in town. She is the one woman who got away, and he honestly can’t blame her because he did killer her brother. But Sophie can’t deny that she has always had lingering feelings for him… And even though he did something terrible, she still loves him. So the two quickly reconnect in a sexual way both knowing that a future isn’t really possible. After all, Sophie’s father HATES Jude and all the other police officers in town are out to get him. But there is something dangerous lurking beneath their lives. And once Sophie and Jude figure out what is going on, their lives change forever.
Having only read a few of Sarina Bowen’s books in the past, I can now say that I am a huge fan because I simply love everything I have read so far. This one in particular is even better though because it tackles real world issues that affect millions of people each day. The author portrays drug addiction and overcoming this addiction in a sensitive way while also showing us how much these drugs can change someone. For those who are looking for an honest, angsty, emotional, and beautiful read I HIGHLY suggest picking up this book. It’s really good and I have a feeling it will stay with me for a long time.
