At the heart of The Husband’s Secret is a letter that is not meant to be read...

My darling Cecilia,
If you’re reading this, then I’ve died...

Imagine your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not only the life you have built together, but the lives of others as well. And then imagine that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive…

Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all—she’s an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, a devoted wife and mother. Her life is as orderly and spotless as her home. But that letter is about to change everything—and not just for her. There are other women who barely know Cecilia—or each other—but they, too, are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret.

This is another clever, well written, and compelling read from one of my favorite authors, Liane Moriarity. This novel gives us a real look into how one death can affect a myriad of people- it’s a domino effect essentially because it not only affects the victim’s family, but others who knew he victim as well. Some people will be blamed, others will be oblivious, and one person will continuously suffer because they don’t know what could have been. Had I not read the ending of the story (the epilogue) I would have been a bit confused as to how it all ended. But this piece of the book puts everything together and readers will not be left with any questions. In fact, I found this to be the most satisfying and unique endings that I have ever read! Liane Moriarity is a genius. I will read anything she writes and most likely fall in love with it from page 1. This is an author that all readers should be introduced to. Her work is like nothing I have ever read before so coming back to her work time and time again is easy.

[read with caution … mild spoilers about the characters BUT NOT the ending ]

When you first read the blurb from this book you will automatically assume that is a story about a wife who finds a letter after her husband’s death. Let me tell you though, this is so not the case. Rather, fate has stepped into this women’s life and changed it forever… That is what this book is about. Just a few simple words and one’s whole world can change. This part of the story is intertwined with a lot of different things yet, they are all connected. Cecelia is the mother of 3 who finds her husband’s letter. A letter that irrevocably changes the course of their lives. Rachel is the mother of Janie who was murdered when she was a teenager. Janie’s murderer was never found and the grief has lived on with her since that fateful day. But Rachel has an inkling of who murdered her daughter… But it will take a lot of trouble to figure out if it’s really that person or not. And this trouble will lead to consequences that can never be fixed. Tess is the third women featured in this book. She and her cousin Felicity have been attached at the hip since they were children. But when Felicity falls in love with Tess’s husband, Tess will have to decide whether her marriage can ever be fixed.

This story takes a look at three ordinary women’s lives that have changed due to kept secrets. Each woman will face traumatic moments that they will need to overcome in their own way. The author writes a beautifully crazy story with The Husbands Secret that is bound to captivate you from the very beginning. This is now one of my top favorite reads EVER and I highly recommend it to anyone!
